Baby steps...classroom prep day 4

I do NOT know why I cannot seem to get moving this year...everything is taking me far too long.  After coming home from an unsuccessful, unproductive day on Thursday, I made myself a HUGE to do list--2 pages long!  Hopefully that will keep me more focused when I go in on Monday!

Here's a few photos to show the little bit I DID get done!
Popsicle sticks with names are made for our "People Picker"!
My pencil jug is filled...so students can get birthday pencils and more!
Outside the classroom, our "Who in the world"is in our class bulletin board.
Name tags are on desks.  (Now available in my store...CLICK HERE)
In the process, I created 3 different areas that look like this.
I am TERRIBLE!  I have bins and boxes and piles EVERY YEAR.

I left feeling pretty defeated--and I am vowing that on Monday I am going to purge piles and cupboards and bins.  I need to remember also that I spent 2 hours of my day going through student files and making a spreadsheet of data from testing...so THAT did get accomplished!

So...remember that there are still a few days left to enter my giveaways and read those blog posts and maybe you can have a better day than me!  Stay tuned for an update--and check the blog tomorrow for a very interesting opportunity!

  1. I love those name tags. I was admiring them in your store the other day. I feel you on the "hard to get moving at a good pace" sentiment. I feel like that every year. I don't know if it is my imagination, or just my brain resisting letting go of summer. I had my room arranged in a satisfactory way (nothing special) and two of my teammates (independently of each other) mentioned that I might want my carpet area to be close to the smart board. Since I am new to the grade level and school, I took their advice and then I spent 6 and a half hours rearranging again. Now that that is more or less done, I need to do a crazy amount of work trying to make heads and tails of the closets. :-)

    1. Angela...if it was just "Back to School" piles, I wouldn't worry. These are piles left from LAST YEAR! I am TERRIBLE!

  3. For me, it has to get worse to make it better. All part of the process of a successful start. Best of luck on Monday! Thise piles will go away and you will start to feel ready. :)

    1. Lori...I hope you are right--but they haven't gone away for the past 22 years so I am not super optimistic!

  4. I think your room is looking great! A to do list always makes me feel more accomplished. There is nothing like crossing things off a list to put a smile on my face!

    1. Me too, Tara. I just prefer it when my list isn't two pages long! :)

  5. I am always amazed at how long it takes to get my classroom ready each year. I have been sorting through piles of papers as well. I have been leaving each day thinking it looks worse than when I started. Hoping Monday goes better.

  6. I'm glad to see someone else in the same boat. I keep putting things in piles in closets assuring myself I will organize everything on the next school break. Hasn't happened yet. Good luck!

  7. I get the spending hours and never feeling accomplished. Last time I took my daughter, and I felt less productive than ever. I also have about four piles just like that on my tables. You will get through! We both will.

  8. I love what you have completed so far. Having your data compiled onto a spreadsheet is a huge accomplishment! Good luck with your to do list. We started school two weeks ago, and I am still working on mine. It seems like every time I cross something off, I add at least three more things!
