Happy Thanksgiving!

It has been a trying week, so I cannot lie.  I'm stretching hard to find things to be thankful for today.  Isn't that awful?

My son's baseball coach sent out an email tonight reminding all of us to have a happy Thanksgiving...but also that we need to always have an "attitude of gratitude" 24/7--not just one Thursday each year.  He is so right.

So as I frantically get ready for another few crazy days of traveling, hospitals, doctors, and the like, I thought I'd make a list of things I am grateful for RIGHT at this minute.  I know I could keep going...but it's a start.

1.  My friends and family.  When times get tough...what would we do without the people in our lives who keep us grounded and sane.  If  you would have told me a year ago that some of my best friends would live around the world and I only would "know" in a "cyber" way--I would have laughed at you.  Now, I am so grateful for my "real world" and "bloggy" friends and family--they are my rocks.

2.  My career.  Whether it's my impact on my students (looking past the red tape, obligations, new initiatives, etc) or my impact on teachers through my blog--I am so grateful for the fact that my job(s) allow me to make a difference in people's lives.

3.  My financial stability.  I am so blessed that I never have to worry about where my next meal is coming from or whether or not I can put gas in my car or provide for my family.  I know there are so many people that do not have this blessing and today I reflect on how lucky I am in this regard.  It's easy to look at how much others have or think about how great a new laptop or car would be...but I am truly fortunate in this regard.

I could keep going...but I think the biggest thing I need to keep reminding myself of is that I need to keep an "attitude of gratitude".  It is so easy to slip into a deficit model where we stress about what ISN'T right or what we don't have...I am going to work on this.  I am so lucky--and I hope all of you know how thankful I am for you and your support.  May your Thanksgiving be safe and full of gratitude!
